Here at Eline Design we use computer software or programs to take your 2D designs and transform them into 3D models. The software we use is called CAD or Computer Aided Drafting or Design. When our fathers had designs created they were done the old way on drafting tables with a ruler, compass, square, mechanical pencil, eraser and paper. It would take several times longer to produce these 2D blue prints and they would be less accurate than any of today’s programs.

When a drafter needed to draw their design for a presentation it would normally be done with an isometric view which is three dimensional(3D). The drafter would have to shade and color which would take incredible amounts of time compared to today’s standard. 3d renderings can be done on cad now in a matter of seconds compared to several days. The 3D renderings can be manipulated with different variations of materials to give them a final look. Light sources can also be controlled along with shadows to produce real life 3D images. These images are made for presentations but are great for all sorts of things like this website. All the images contained in this site were created with CAD software.

CAD based software allows the drafter to input data for the designs including measurements and materials. Extrusions, fillets, chamfers, and subtracting are just a few 3D commands that cad programs can produce in a matter of seconds with the click of a mouse. Scale factors which enable designs to be viewed correctly are done automatically by the program. Many unique commands such as mirroring, copying, trimming, and moving make the process of drafting more efficient by reducing the time it takes to design 3D models

Eline Design uses several unique CAD based programs which are each used for specific models. This software is constantly being updated with newer versions that incorporate new methods of designing. Some CAD programs are designed specifically for creating mechanical parts, architecture, civil, and electrical models. These cad programs make the task of creating their intended design more easy by adding related design commands

CAD will always get faster and more efficient as technology gets better. To learn more about cad or to learn how to design with 3d cad programs you can visit Eline Designs Blog. The Blog has weekly tips and lessons on CAD drafting. It is a great resource for cad news and related articles. Any questions you might have concerning how to use cad or general cad questions are answered by the designers here at Eline Design.
